It’s super easy to install Chromium on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and above, both from the command line and from the Ubuntu Software store.
Just run sudo apt-get install chromium-browser in a new Terminal window to install Chromium on your Ubuntu, Linux Mint, and other related Linux distributions to get it.
How to install Chromium on Ubuntu Chromium is a free and open source web browser which is what the Google Chrome is based on. They are very similar except that Chromium doesn't have the proprietary bits that are added to Google Chrome. Method 1: Install Chromium Using the Ubuntu Software Center Open the Ubuntu Software Center from the Application menu by clicking the icon. You can also find the Ubuntu Software Center by searching for it in the search bar. After you click on the icon, the Ubuntu Software Center dashboard screen will appear. Install Chromium on your Raspberry Pi with apt-get At first, we have to update our packages. Open a terminal and type in: sudo apt-get update. Then, you can install it also by using the packet manager: sudo apt-get install chromium-browser -yes. Alternatively you can install the package chromium-browser instead of chromium. Installing Chromium on Ubuntu 20.04 using the terminal Once the package is downloaded and installed, Chromium will be available from the main menu. Remember that you don’t have to use both methods, one of them is enough to get Chromium on Ubuntu 20.04.
Chromium (in case you’ve never heard of it) is a free, open source project developed (primarily) by Google. It serves as the foundation of the Google Chrome browser (we’ve a separate article if you want to install Google Chrome on Ubuntu).
The differences between Chromium and Google Chrome are slight. Chromium lacks a few of the proprietary extras that its branded sibling comes bundled with, such as a built-in PDF reader.
Chromium is also used as the basis for several other leading web browsers, including Vivaldi, Opera, and (most recently) Microsoft Edge.
If you’re wondering whether Google Chrome extensions work in Chromium, then the answer is yes. You can even use Google sync to keep your passwords, bookmarks, settings and extension in check between Chrome and Chromium, too.
Install Chromium on Ubuntu & Linux Mint
You can install Chromium on Linux in a number of different ways, including compiling it by hand if you download the Chromium Linux source code.
However, its MUCH easier to install the browser on your Linux desktop using a repo package, which we’ll walk you though now.
Install Chromium (GUI Way)
Ubuntu users, as well those on Ubuntu-based distributions like Linux Mint, Zorin OS and Peppermint, will find installing Chromium on Ubuntu relatively easy as the browser is available directly from the Ubuntu repos, which are already set up.
To install Chromium on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and above, just open the Ubuntu Software tool and search for ‘Chromium’. Click on the app listing then the install button.

From here just hit “install”, enter your password (if prompted) and that’s pretty much it — hey: I did say it was easy!
Install Chromium (CLI Way)
You can also install the chromium-browser package using the terminal too as the browser is available direct from the Ubuntu repositories (which are also used in Linux Mint, et al).
Just open a new Terminal window (ctrl + alt + t) and run this command, remembering to enter your user password when prompted:
Just wait for everything to be downloaded, unpacked and moved to the correct locations.

Chromium, an open source browser project, is mainly behind Google Chrome web browser. It should not be confused with Chromium OS. Both Chromium web browser (or Chromium) and Chromium OS are maintained by Chromium Projects. In this article, we would discuss how to install Chromium in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.
Chromium was first released on September 2, 2008. Its a cross-platform application/web-browser. Earlier, Chromium web browser was available through standard Ubuntu repository as well through snap. But, now it can’t be installed through standard Ubuntu repository. Although a package (chromium-browser) is available in the repository. But, it indirectly installs the application through snap.
Besides there are other ways to install Chromium web browser as well. For the purpose of this article, we would stick with installation done through snap.
Since, its (snap) a prerequisite. Therefore, first we would discuss how to install snap in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS. Then, using snap we would install Chromium web browser.
Check whether you have snap installed
Open a terminal and Issue the following –
It should return snap, series, Ubuntu and kernel versions.
If it doesn’t show the version details for snap and snapd then first install snap. Otherwise, if you already have snap installed then, you may skip Part – A section of the article.
Install Chromium Ubuntu Terminal
Note: Following operations would require you to have superuser privileges. In case you don’t have one, then contact your System Administrator for assistance.
A – Install snap in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
Since the package snapd is already available through standard Ubuntu repository. Therefore, first update the repository to make the latest version of the package available. Hence, issue the following in terminal –

Installing Chromium through snap is pretty straight-forward. Open a terminal and issue the following –
